What Are You Taking For Granted - Develop Your Attitude Of Gratitude
Hi I'm Christian Baker from Christian baker.net and The Achieve Podcast, sharing inspiration, motivation, and encouragement to help you to think differently, to develop your mindset so that you can believe in yourself more, take purposeful action, so that you can achieve the life that you want.
Now we've had some really turbulent interesting times in this last year. And one of the things that I think this has highlighted for many people, is how much we take for granted.
And I think it's causing people to have a bit of a reset.
So, today I just wanted you to think about, is there anything that you are taking for granted?
Are you taking life for granted?
Is there anyone you take for granted?
Is there anything you take for granted?
Often, it's not until something is taken away from us, or we're unable to do something anymore, that we actually realise how much we used to take it for granted and how much we now appreciate it.
If someone has an injury, or has health problems that means they can no longer do things that they enjoyed doing, or would like to do, and they now really miss it, has a new perspective for how much they used to take it for granted.
So, really the purpose of this episode is to get you to think about and look at your life, to look at the things and the people in your life and ask yourself, is there anything, or anyone that you take for granted?
And then ask yourself is anything you can do about that?
Or
What are you going to do about?
The opposite of taking things for granted is to show more appreciation and gratitude for the things that you have in your life.
This is an exercise, a strategy, that I encourage my clients to do. It's something anyone can start doing, regardless of their current circumstances.
You could make it part of your daily thinking routine. If nothing else, just allow yourself to reflect on the things you are grateful for, or you could write you gratitude down in a journal.
For more about journaling watch this video.
It's something you could get in the habit of doing at the end of every day, or as you're doing a daily walk/commute, or as you're just about to go to sleep at night, just ask yourself;
What am I grateful for?
What do I appreciate in my life?
Whether you do it in your thoughts, or in a journal, just spend more time training your mind to think about the good things in your life.
And if there's anyone that you would like to share your gratitude and appreciation with, let them know, there's no point keeping it to yourself, how will they know if you don't share it with them.
How will they know that you appreciate them, if you don't tell them?
How will they know that you're grateful for the things they do for you?
This reminds me of the quote;
"Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it." William Arthur Ward
So, think about the things and the people that you're grateful for and start expressing it more.
Reflect and express it in your mind, but also share it with anybody who would benefit from hearing how much you appreciate what they do for you.
Do this more and don't take everything for granted. I know we can get caught up in the busyness of life, that we can easily take so much for granted, but every now and again, just to have a word with yourself, take a couple of moments to look around, notice the people, the things, the life that you have and show more appreciation, show more gratitude, and enjoy your life as much as you can.
And if there is something that you'd like to change, remember you can change your mindset. You can change your focus and your thinking.
So, make today the first day that you make those purposeful changes that help you to enjoy and achieve the life that you want. And practicing gratitude is a fantastic way of starting that change in your mindset.
And remember what your mind believes you will achieve. So, think differently, believe yourself, take action, and you can achieve the life and the goals that you want.
Go on make it happen. Make the changes today and think about what you can do that your future self will thank you for!
All the best
Christian
